As expected, the start of the second edition of the Metropolitan Surf Circuit start in the middle of the action of the National Circuit (CNS) that goes to the fifth date. The next Saturday 27 March from the facilities of the Hotel Bahia Encantada in Jaco Beach, will be run the first date of surfers Circuit for residents of non-coastal provinces.

 The 2009 season of this championship, which has as its mission to include complete entire community of surfers from Costa Rica to competition under professional standards, took 200 surfers in three dates. For 2010 the Federation hoped that as least 250. 

 "The number of surfers in the provinces without coast that visiting the Pacific coast at least doubled after the World Surf done, plus the opening of the new highway San José - Caldera that provides access to the area," said Jose Ureña, President of the Surf Federation (FSC).

 “Today surfing as a major sporting activity undertaken by many young people across the country, which is why this circuit arises that wants to exploit national talent that we know they are in every corner of Costa Rica”, he added.

 This new season brings, like the previous three dates spread over Jacó, Playa Hermosa and Esterillos, which joins final stop with the final round of National Circuit DayStar one big party for the month of June that promises much surfing and music with well-known national bands.

The Metropolitan Circuit schedule is as follows:

1st Date: Saturday March 27th, Jacó Beach.

2nd Date: Saturday May 1st, Esterillos

3rd Date: Grand Final Friday June 25th, Hermosa Beach                    

 In this new season of "metropolitan" Jorge Berrocal, Paula Coto, Lamberto Micageli and Enrique Uribe of the divisions Open, Women and Junior (tie for first place), come to defend the championship title achieved in 2009. For Berrocal, the escazuceño going through the struggle of his third consecutive title in 2007 he was champion of the "Circuit Chepeño".

Jorge Berrocal today is the referent of the championship surfer who successfully based on the three dates of the championship, became the first Metropolitan title. In 2009 the first meeting date was for him, followed by a 3rd and a 7th place in the remaining two.

In the last two dates of the previous championship, the competitive level increased substantially due to the inclusion of new surfers as Gianni Fernandino or Roberto Carlos Aguero, who were not on the first date, but they put pressure at the end thanks to its good surf and empathy for the competition.

"This year I see tough competition with young people. The level is in the surfers between 18 and 22 years is good, certain to give surprises.However, the team to beat by all is Giannio (Ferrandino) ", referred Berrocal.

According to the Metropolitan champion, the Ramonense Ferrandino has speed, is agile and does get a lot of maneuvering through a person who is light, so their training (of Berrocal) to start the Metropolitan, he says, will intensify now on.

And is that Ramonense results speak for themselves: two 1st place in the last date of the Metropolitan Circuit, plus three 1st place performed on four dates National Surf Circuit in the Amateur category, where even some metropolitan as Ernesto Roberth or Carlos Pacheco decided to run with good results so far.

"Participants of the Metropolitan running the National Circuit are going to be strong because they kept working, this is going to help much," said de Escazú, who also noted that the level of surfers from San Jose, thanks to the opening of the road San Jose - Caldera, will grow much.

Himself says sometimes surf in the morning and then go to work at 10:00 am in its time of entry.                

The inscriptions on the first date will be in Mango Surf & Skate Shop in Jaco on Friday, March 5, 5:00 pm 7:00 p.m. or in Mango Multiplaza Escazú from today. The Competition starts on Saturday from 7:30 am in a single day in dispute.

Como estaba previsto, el inicio de la segunda edición del Circuito Metropolitano de Surf arrancará en medio de la acción del Circuito Nacional (CNS) que se dirige a la quinta cita. El próximo sábado 27 de marzo frente a las instalaciones del Hotel Bahía Encantada en Playa Jacó, se correrá la primera fecha del Circuito para tablistas residentes de las provincias no costeras.

La temporada 2009 de este Campeonato, el cual tiene como misión terminar de incluir a la comunidad entera de surfistas de Costa Rica a la competencia bajo estándares profesionales, llevó a 200 surfistas en tres fechas. Para este 2010 la Federación espera como menos 250.

“La cantidad de surfistas de las provincias sin costa que visitan el pacífico por lo menos se duplicó después de realizado el Mundial de Surf, más la apertura de la nueva carretera San José – Caldera que les facilita el acceso a la zona”, afirmó José Ureña, Presidente de la Federación de Surf (FSC).

“Hoy la práctica del surf como principal actividad deportiva la realizan muchos jóvenes de todo el país, es por eso que nace este Circuito que quiere explotar talentos nacionales que sabemos que están por todos los rincones de Costa Rica”, añadió.

Esta nueva temporada trae, al igual que la anterior,  tres fechas repartidas en Jacó, Esterillos y Playa Hermosa, parada Final que se une con la última cita del Circuito Nacional DayStar en una gran fiesta para el mes de Junio que promete  mucho surf y música con reconocidas bandas nacionales.

El calendario del Circuito Metropolitano es el siguiente:

1ª fecha: Sábado 27 de Marzo, Playa Jacó.

2ª Fecha: Sábado 1 de Mayo, Esterillos

3ª Fecha: Gran Final viernes 25 de junio, Playa Hermosa                    

A esta nueva temporada los “metropolitanos” Jorge Berrocal, Paula Coto, Lamberto Micageli y Enrique Uribe de las divisiones Open, Mujeres y Junior (empate en el primer lugar), vienen a defender el título de campeones conseguido en 2009. En el caso Berrocal, el escazuceño va por la lucha de su tercer título consecutivo, en 2007 fue campeón del “Circuito Chepeño”.

Jorge Berrocal hoy es el surfista referente del campeonato, quien a base de buenos resultados en las tres fechas del Campeonato, se hizo del primer título Metropolitano. En 2009 la primera cita fecha fue para él, seguido de un 3º  y un 7º  lugar en las dos restantes.

En las dos últimas fechas del campeonato anterior, el nivel competitivo aumentó considerablemente, debido a la inclusión de nuevos surfistas como GiannioFernandino o Carlos Roberto Agüero, quienes no estuvieron en la primera cita, pero que metieron presión al final gracias a su buen surf y empatía por la competencia.

“Este año la competencia  la veo dura  con los jóvenes. El nivel que hay en los surfistas entre  18 y  22 años es bueno, seguro que van a dar sorpresas. Sin embargo, el rival a vencer por todos  es Giannio (Ferrandino)”, refirió Berrocal.

Según el Campeón Metropolitano, el ramonense Ferrandino tiene velocidad, es ágil y logra meter muchas maniobras gracias a que es una persona liviana, por lo que su entrenamiento (de Berrocal) para el arranque del Metropolitano, afirma, se intensificará ahora en más.

Y es que los resultados del ramonense hablan por sí mismos: dos 1º  lugares en las dos últimas fecha del Circuito Metropolitano, además de tres 1º lugares en cuatro fechas realizadas del Circuito Nacional de Surf en la categoría Amateur, donde inclusive algunos metropolitanos como Ernesto Roberth o Carlos Pacheco decidieron correrlo y con buenos resultados hasta hoy.

“Los del Metropolitano que corren el Circuito Nacional van a estar fuertes porque se mantuvieron fogueando, eso les va ayudar mucho”, aseguró el de Escazú, quien además refirió que el nivel de los surfistas de San José, gracias a la apertura de la carretera San José – Caldera, crecerá mucho.

Él mismo afirma surfear en ocasiones en la madrugada para luego dirigirse a su trabajo a las 10:00 a.m. en su hora de entrada.                     

Las inscripciones de la primera fecha se realizarán en Tienda Mango Surf & Skate de Jacó el viernes de 5 de Marzo de 5:00 p.m. a 7:00 p.m.  o bien en Mango Multiplaza Escazú a partir de hoy. Las competencias iniciarán los sábados a partir de las 7:30 a.m. en un solo día de disputa.
